Box

Box in the 1930 census veterans column means the man served in the Boxer Rebellion in China.

Box was the 1930 census short form for the Boxer Rebellion, an uprising in North China between 1899 and 1901. An alliance of eight foreign powers, American troops among them, invaded China to lift the siege of the foreign legations and defeated the Boxers.

Few men have this entry. In 1940 the census put this service under S, together with the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection, so the 1930 entry is the more exact one.
