Daily AncestorQuestions and answers
Is it really free?
Yes. Everything on the site is free and works without an account.
Do I need an account?
No. Your streak and progress are kept in this browser. Later you will be able to sign in with your email to keep them on every device.
Can you search for my ancestor?
No, we are not a records database. Use the free indexes at the National Archives, FamilySearch or your library. When you find a record, come here to understand what it says.
Where do the record images come from?
From public archives and Wikimedia Commons, with the source and licence under each one. Lessons sometimes use a made-up example written in period style; those are labelled "Example".
Can our society or library share it?
Please do. Link to any page, use the dictionary in your newsletter, or write to us if you would like something for a meeting or class.
I found a mistake.
Thank you. Please tell us on the contact page and we will fix it.
