fully authorized thereto. Dated the nineteenth Day of February in the third Year of the
Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second, by the Grace of God of Great
Brittain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith &c. Annoque
Domini 1729
The grant is dated "the nineteenth Day of February ... Anno Domini 1729." Which year would we use for it today?
Correct
Not quite
Before 1752 the year in Virginia changed on March 25, so a February date was still counted in 1729 even though, by our reckoning, 1730 had begun. The reign confirms it: George II became king in June 1727, and his third year ran from June 1729 to June 1730. Genealogists write it 19 Feb. 1729/30.
