Emp
Emp in the 1910 census means employer: the person employed others, not counting house servants, in his or her own business.
In the 1910 census Emp marked an employer, someone who hired others in their own business. Domestic servants did not count. Its alternatives were W for wage earner and OA for own account.
An Emp entry is a hint that the business may appear in city directories, county histories, tax records and newspaper advertisements.
