prox.
Prox. (proximo) means "of next month": a notice dated April 20 announcing a sale "on the 5th prox." means May 5.
Prox. is short for proximo, meaning "in the coming month." It looks forward from the date of the document, so you need that date to work out the event.
It is less common in family records than inst. and ult., but it appears in estate sale notices, court summonses and business letters announcing something still to come. Remember that a planned event may not have happened as announced.
As seen in a recordEstate sale notice in a newspaper
