Coxalgia
Coxalgia, literally hip pain, was a medical name for disease of the hip joint, which the old cause-of-death codes counted as a form of tuberculosis.
The word joins Latin coxa, hip, with Greek for pain, and Webster's 1913 defines it simply as pain in the hip. On a death record it means more than an ache: the hip trouble was serious enough to be blamed for the death.
In the cause-of-death codes IPUMS applied to the 1850 to 1880 mortality schedules, coxalgia sits among the forms of tuberculosis, next to Pott's disease of the spine.
