Homicide
Homicide on a death record meant the person was killed by another person; it did not decide whether the killing was murder.
Webster's 1913 defines homicide as the killing of one human being by another, and says it may be justifiable, excusable or felonious, which includes murder and manslaughter.
The 1911 Census Bureau manual asked coroners and doctors to state accident, suicide or homicide and then the means. IPUMS separates homicide by firearms, by cutting and by other means.
