Phlebitis

Phlebitis means an inflamed vein, usually in the leg; old records often tie it to childbirth, along with milk leg.

Webster's 1913 defines phlebitis as inflammation of a vein, and Wiktionary adds that it is usually in the legs.

IPUMS codes phlebitis with varicose veins, and lists puerperal phlebitis with milk leg and embolism after childbirth, in its scheme for the 1850 to 1880 mortality schedules.
