Scarlatina
Scarlatina is another name for scarlet fever, a streptococcal infection with sore throat, high fever and a red rash that killed many children.
Scarlatina and scarlet fever were used interchangeably for the same disease: a bacterial throat infection with fever and a bright red rash. The 1911 Britannica says the two names were applied indifferently.
In the 1800s it was a feared illness of childhood, and older names such as canker rash may refer to it too.
