Stillborn
Stillborn means a baby born dead; church burial registers and death records often list such infants without a first name.
A stillbirth is the death of a baby before or during birth, as opposed to a miscarriage early in pregnancy or a death soon after a live birth. Causes were often unknown, though problems with the pregnancy, the placenta or infection played a part.
Stillborn babies were usually not baptized, so they may appear only in burial registers, family Bibles or later death indexes as infant of the parents.
