Tubercular meningitis

Tubercular meningitis, also called acute hydrocephalus, was tuberculosis of the membranes around the brain, most common in children under ten and usually fatal.

The 1911 Britannica describes tubercular cerebral meningitis, or acute hydrocephalus, as inflammation of the brain's membranes caused by the tubercle bacillus, most common in children under ten. Fluid on the brain is still a common complication.

IPUMS gives tubercular meningitis its own code in its scheme for the 1850 to 1880 mortality schedules. Brain fever or dropsy of the brain on a child's record may be the same disease.
