Typhoid pneumonia
Typhoid pneumonia was a 1800s name that could mean either typhoid fever with lung trouble or a severe pneumonia with typhoid-like stupor.
The 1911 Census Bureau manual, quoting the Registrar-General of England, said typhoid pneumonia should never be used, because it might mean enteric (typhoid) fever with lung complications or a pneumonia with so-called typhoid symptoms.
Its standard certificate instructions repeat the rule: report typhoid fever, never typhoid pneumonia. On an older record you cannot tell which of the two was meant.
