Burial register

A burial register is the part of a parish register recording burials, usually the date of burial, the name and sometimes age, residence or cause of death.

Burial entries give the date of burial, which is usually a day or two after the death, not the death date itself. Many add an age, a parent's or husband's name, or a note such as infant or stranger.

By the mid 1800s many church burial grounds were run by private cemetery associations, whose records seldom became part of the church record. Look then for cemetery or sexton records.
