First Day

In Quaker records, First Day means Sunday, Second Day Monday and so on through Seventh Day, Saturday.

Quakers numbered the days of the week rather than use names drawn from pagan gods. First Day is Sunday, Second Day is Monday, and Seventh Day is Saturday. Their Sunday schools are still called First Day schools.

Meeting minutes often give both the weekday number and the month number, as in Fifth Day, 3d of Ninth Month. Convert the month carefully if the record is from before 1752.
