Acre

An acre is a unit of land area: 43,560 square feet, or 160 square rods.

The acre is the standard measure of land area in American deeds and surveys. It equals 43,560 square feet, 10 square chains or 160 square rods, and there are 640 acres in a square mile.

Many old deeds add more or less after the acreage, because early surveys were rough. Do not expect the acres in a chain of deeds to match exactly.
