Mustered in

Mustered in means a soldier or a new unit was formally enrolled in military service and entered on the muster-in roll.

To muster in was to enroll a soldier, or a whole new unit, formally into military service and account for him on a roll. When a regiment was created it was mustered in, and when it disbanded it was mustered out.

Civil War compiled service records usually include a muster-in card copied from that roll. It can give the man's name, enlistment date, period of service, residence at enlistment and a physical description, and other cards may note a bounty paid.
