Dobbin
Dobbin was a nickname for Robert in American records of the 1700s and 1800s.
Dobbin comes from Dob, a medieval short form of Robert, with a pet ending; it was once the same kind of name as Bobby. Older lists also give the shorter Dob.
In a search, try both names. An index may list him only as Dobbin, while his baptism or marriage record gives Robert.
As seen in a record1850 census; his 1845 deed is signed Robert
Dobbin Ingham, 48, M, Farmer, Tenn.
