Dottie
Dottie was a common nickname for Dorothy in American records of the 1700s and 1800s.
Dottie, also spelled Dotty, is a pet form of Dorothy that was sometimes given as a full name. A Vita Brevis guide from American Ancestors lists it with Dolly, Dot and Dotha as forms of Dorothy.
In a search, try both names. An index may list her only as Dottie, while her baptism or marriage record gives Dorothy.
As seen in a record1900 census; her marriage license a few years later gives Dorothy
Dottie Osgood, Daughter, May 1880, 20, S, Ind.
