Jake
Jake is an old nickname for Jacob, found in American records of the 1700s and 1800s.
Jake began as a medieval variant of Jack and later became a short form of Jacob; lists of 18th and 19th century nicknames give it for Jacob.
A gravestone or a family Bible may say Jake while a will or a deed says Jacob. Search indexes under both forms so you do not miss him.
As seen in a record1850 census; his 1835 deed is signed Jacob
