Assembler

An assembler was a factory worker who fitted parts together into a finished product or a larger unit, such as an automobile.

Wiktionary defines an assembler simply as one who assembles items. As a census occupation it belongs to the factories of the 1900s, and the entry is short because the job title alone says little.

The 1930 census instructions give "Assembler, Automobile factory" as a model entry, with the job in the occupation column and the kind of factory in the industry column. Read the industry column to learn what was being assembled.
