Druggist
A druggist made up and sold drugs and medicines, the usual American word for a pharmacist in the 1800s and early 1900s.
Druggists mixed prescriptions, sold patent medicines and kept a range of other goods in their stores.
A druggist was a respected small businessman. City directories, state pharmacy board records and newspaper advertisements can fill in the store's location and years.
