Home farm

Home farm was a 1910 and 1920 census entry meaning a person worked on the family's own farm rather than for someone else.

In 1910 and 1920 the census added an industry column. For children, wives and other relatives doing regular farm work for the family, enumerators wrote farm laborer in the occupation column and home farm in the industry column.

It tells you the person was unpaid family help, which matters when you are trying to work out who owned or rented the land.
