Lumberman
A lumberman worked in the timber trade, as a logger cutting trees or as a dealer or owner in the lumber business.
The word covers both ends of the trade: the man felling trees in the woods, and the businessman who bought timberland or sold lumber. In Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota it often means a logger.
Look at age, property and other clues: a young lumberman with no property was likely a woodsman, while an older one with land may have owned mills.
