Maltster
A maltster made malt by soaking, sprouting and drying barley or other grain, for use in brewing and distilling.
Malting turns grain into a form brewers can use. The maltster steeped the grain, let it sprout on a floor, then dried it in a kiln to stop growth.
Maltsters worked in malt houses attached to breweries or in independent malt houses that sold to several brewers.
