Own income
Own income was the 1910 census entry for a person with no occupation who lived on independent income such as rents, savings or investments.
The 1910 instructions told enumerators to write own income for people who followed no occupation but had income of their own, and none for those with no occupation who were supported by others.
The 1900 census used capitalist or landlord for people living on investments or rents, and in 1920 own income was dropped in favor of none. So own income belongs mainly to the 1910 census.
