Scullery maid

A scullery maid was the lowest-ranking kitchen servant in a large house, scrubbing pots, dishes, floors and sinks for the cook.

In great houses the scullery maid was usually the youngest and lowest-ranked female servant and assisted the kitchen maid, who in turn answered to the cook. She scoured pots, pans, plates, stoves, sinks and floors, and helped clean vegetables, pluck fowl and scale fish.

Dictionaries mark the title as historical. It belongs to big households with a separate scullery, where dishes were washed apart from the kitchen.
