Souter
Souter is an old Scottish and northern English word for a shoemaker or cobbler.
The word goes back through Middle English soutere and Old English sutere to Latin sutor, shoemaker or cobbler. Wiktionary limits it to Scotland and northern England.
Souter is also a Scottish surname taken from the Scots word for a shoemaker, and the Souters of Selkirk is a nickname for the people of that Scottish Borders town.
