Station agent
A station agent was the railroad employee in charge of a station or depot; it is the American name for a station master.
The person in charge of a railroad station was called a station master in Britain and usually a station agent in the United States. He managed the other station employees and was responsible for safety and the efficient running of the station.
The work varied with the size of the place, from a large city terminal with hundreds of staff to a small country depot. A woman in the post was sometimes called station mistress.
