Tiler
A tiler laid roof or floor tiles; in Masonic records the Tiler, or Tyler, was the doorkeeper of the lodge.
As a trade, a tiler set tiles, whether clay roofing tiles or floor and wall tiles. The word goes back to Middle English tiler, one who lays tile.
In Freemasonry, the Tiler, often spelled Tyler, is the doorkeeper or attendant of the lodge. If an ancestor's lodge record calls him Tiler, it is an office he held, not his daily work.
