Trackwalker

A trackwalker was a railroad employee who walked a section of track every day, inspecting rails, ties and switches for damage.

A trackwalker was employed to walk over and inspect a section of railroad track on foot, looking over his stretch of the line for anything wrong.

The job belonged to the maintenance side of the railroad, alongside the section hands who repaired the line. In a 1910 to 1940 census it usually appears with steam railroad in the industry column.
