Wool sorter
A wool sorter graded raw wool, separating each fleece into finer and coarser grades before it was washed and spun.
A wool sorter took each raw fleece apart by hand and sorted the wool by quality into coarser and finer grades, which were then sold or spun separately.
A related job, wool classing, judged each lot of wool by the breed of sheep, the fineness and crimp of the fiber, and any stains, brands or seed, and kept faulty wool out of the good lines so buyers knew what they were getting.
As seen in a recordOccupation and industry columns of the 1910 to 1940 census
