Look for the old man's draft
Find a man in your family born between April 28, 1877 and February 16, 1897, and look for his World War II draft card from April 27, 1942.
The fourth registration of 1942 was not meant to put older men into uniform, but it wrote down a birth date and birthplace for men born as early as the 1870s, plus a person who would always know where he lived.
Your steps this week
- Check his birth date against the fourth registration range, April 28, 1877 to February 16, 1897.
- Search a free index such as FamilySearch, which indexes the 1942 fourth registration.
- Copy the residence, mailing address, birth date and place, and employer exactly as written.
- Note the person who will always know his address, without assuming the relationship.
- If he was born by 1900, look for his World War I card too and compare the two.
