Daily AncestorAgt.
Agt. is short for agent, and was one of the official abbreviations allowed in the occupation column of the 1900 census.
Because the occupation column of the 1900 census was narrow, the enumerator instructions listed twenty abbreviations that could be used there, and no others. Agt. for agent is one of them.
An agent acted or sold for someone else, so the word that follows matters: Agt., insur. is an insurance agent, and Agt., R.R. a railroad agent.
