M.E.
M.E., as in M.E. Church, stands for Methodist Episcopal, the main American Methodist church from 1784 until 1939.
The Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in 1784 and was the largest Methodist body in the United States. In 1844 the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, split off over slavery, so M.E. Church, South (often ME Church South) names the southern branch.
In 1939 the two branches and the Methodist Protestant Church joined to form the Methodist Church. Records of an M.E. church may sit in a regional Methodist archive.
