Minn.

Minn. is an older abbreviation of Minnesota, used long before the two letter postal codes. Census takers were allowed to abbreviate state names in the place of birth column, so abbreviated state names are common in the birthplace column of nineteenth century census pages.

Minn. is the standard nineteenth century form. Minnesota became a state in 1858, and many Scandinavian and German families show children born there from the 1860s on.
