Albuminuria

Albuminuria meant albumin, a protein, found in the urine; in a woman who died in childbirth it was grouped with puerperal convulsions.

Webster's 1913 defines albuminuria as a condition in which albumin is present in the urine. It was a sign doctors could test for, not a disease of its own.

IPUMS puts puerperal albuminuria with puerperal convulsions and Bright's disease, and the 1911 Census Bureau manual has a title for puerperal albuminuria and convulsions.
