Nephritis
Nephritis meant inflammation of the kidneys, acute or chronic; by the early 1900s statisticians preferred exact nephritis names to Bright's disease.
Webster's 1913 defines nephritis as inflammation of the kidneys. IPUMS separates acute nephritis from Bright's disease, nephritis and uraemia.
The 1911 Census Bureau manual asked doctors to write acute nephritis with its cause, such as scarlet fever, and called chronic interstitial nephritis and similar names better than a bare Bright's disease. Uraemia alone was not to be reported.
As seen in a recordCause of death line, state death certificate, 1910s to 1930s
