Cancer of the womb
Cancer of the womb meant cancer of the uterus or its neck (cervix); old statistics counted it with cancers of the female genital organs.
Webster's 1913 defines the womb as the uterus. IPUMS gives cancer of the female genital organs its own code, and the 1911 Census Bureau manual has the same title and asks for the organ to be stated.
Doctors were asked to prefer carcinoma or sarcoma of the organ, so later certificates often read carcinoma of uterus.
