Cholera infantum

Cholera infantum means severe diarrhea and vomiting in infants and toddlers, usually in summer; despite the name it is not true Asiatic cholera.

Cholera infantum, Latin for cholera of infants, was the medical name for violent diarrhea and vomiting in babies and toddlers, usually in summer. Dehydration could kill within days.

Despite the name, it was not the epidemic disease cholera. It covered various intestinal infections of young children and appears constantly in July and August entries for infants.
