Cholerine

Cholerine was a 1800s name for mild diarrhea during a cholera epidemic, read either as a mild case of cholera or as its first stage.

Webster's 1913 gives three senses: the warning symptoms of cholera, the first stage of epidemic cholera, and a mild form of cholera. Wiktionary defines it as minor diarrhea that happens during cholera outbreaks.

It fits the American cholera years, when the pandemic of the 1830s reached Detroit and New York City in 1832. A death from cholerine usually means the illness turned out worse than the name suggests.
