Hundred
A hundred is the old name for a division of a county in Delaware, used in place of a township on census headings, as in Appoquinimink Hundred.
Colonists brought the English hundred to Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It lasted longest in Delaware, where hundreds served as tax and voting districts until the 1960s.
The 1900 instructions name hundreds as Delaware's county divisions, and the 1910 instructions list hundred among the classes of division to write on the heading. Look for Delaware families by hundred, not by township.
