Married contrary to discipline
Married contrary to discipline, mcd, means two Quakers married each other but not in Quaker manner, for example before a magistrate or another church's minister.
Here both partners were Friends, but they skipped the meeting's approval and married by a civil ceremony or by a minister of another denomination, which Quaker records may call being married by a priest.
Unlike mou, an mcd entry tells you the spouse was also a Quaker. The couple were often reported together and might both acknowledge the offense and remain members.
As seen in a recordQuaker monthly meeting minutes or a published abstract, 1700s to 1800s
Thos. Mendenhall & w Ann mcd; both ack
