Calendar Act of 1750
The Calendar Act of 1750 moved Britain and its colonies to the Gregorian calendar: Wednesday, September 2, 1752 was followed by Thursday, September 14.
This act of Parliament, often called the Calendar Act of 1751 in America, made two changes. The legal year 1751 ended on December 31, so 1752 began on January 1 rather than March 25. Then, to catch up with the Gregorian calendar, eleven days were left out of September 1752.
It applied to Britain's American colonies. As a result 1751 was a short year, running from March 25 to December 31, and the dates September 3 to 13, 1752 never existed in the colonies. A colonial record dated in that gap is an error, or a date from a place that did not follow the British change.
