New Style
New Style (N.S.) means a date given by the Gregorian calendar, the one in use in Britain and its colonies from September 1752 on.
New Style, or N.S., marks a date in the Gregorian calendar, with the year starting on January 1. Britain and its colonies switched to it in 1752.
Some writers converted older dates to New Style. George Washington was born on February 11, 1731/2 by the calendar of his day, but is now said to have been born on February 22, 1732. When a source gives N.S. for an early date, it has been converted; check which form the original record used.
