Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent, 47 days before Easter, so its date moves each year.
Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday. It always falls 47 days before Easter, so it can be in February or March.
Older records and diaries may name it instead of giving a date. Work it out from Easter in that year, and remember that before 1752 a date in February or early March may also need a double year.
