fille

Fille is French for "daughter" and also "girl"; fille de, daughter of, introduces a woman's parents in French records.

In family records fille means daughter, followed by de and the parents' names. The same word also means girl, so read the phrase around it.

Fille majeure is a daughter of legal age and fille mineure one under age. Belle-fille means daughter-in-law or stepdaughter, and petite-fille means granddaughter.
