Jänner
Jänner (also Jenner) is the Austrian and southern German word for January, used in records from Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland and South Tyrol.
Standard German says Januar, but Jänner is the normal word in Austria and South Tyrol and is also used, less often, in Switzerland and southern Germany. The older form Jenner appears in records too.
If a date reads 3. Jänner 1855, it is simply January 3, 1855. Another old German name for the month, Hartung, also turns up in word lists of old month names.
