Konfirmation
Konfirmation is the Protestant rite of confirmation, usually at age 14 or 15; German confirmation lists record the young person's name and often their parents.
In Lutheran and other Protestant churches, Konfirmation was the public confession of faith at the end of religious instruction, and it admitted the young person to communion. It usually came at 14 or 15 and for a long time coincided with leaving school.
Confirmation registers are useful when a baptism is missing, because they place a child in the parish at a known age. The Catholic counterpart is Firmung, which the Catholic Church counts as a sacrament.
