War of 1812 marker

A War of 1812 marker on a grave was placed later, often by the U.S. Daughters of 1812, to show the person served in that war.

Markers for War of 1812 veterans were often added long after the burial. Chapters of the U.S. Daughters of 1812, with the General Society of the War of 1812, research veterans and mark their graves; the Arkansas society has searched since 1908.

A government shield headstone may also stand on the grave, since the Civil War type stone was later supplied for 1812 veterans. Confirm service in pension and bounty land files.
