Italian words in old records · card P

padre

Padre is Italian for "father"; padre ignoto, "father unknown," appears in the act of a child born outside marriage or a foundling.

Padre is father, from Latin pater. In acts the father often comes first, as figlio di, son of, and then his name. Padre ignoto means father unknown and genitori ignoti parents unknown, both signs of an illegitimate birth or an abandoned child.

Padre is also the title of a priest, Father, so read the context. Patrigno means stepfather and padrino godfather, which look similar but name different people. The abbreviation pt. or paternità may stand for the father in printed forms.
